India bowling coach Paras Mhambrey opened up about the situation of the ongoing Test against England after Day 3. He said that they aren’t looking at any particular target as they are focused on taking early wickets on Day 4.
After dominating the two days of the game, India came under pressure on Day 3. England made a solid comeback and were on top with bat and ball, making sure that they took the game to the fourth day and gave a big target to the opponents.
England first bundled out India for 436, conceding just 15 runs on Day 3. And after that, they were rock solid with the bat. Zak Crawley (31) and Ben Duckett (47) provided a solid start to the team but the real hero for them was Ollie Pope.
Despite wickets falling at the other end, made sure that he batted as long as possible and helped the team end the deficit of 175 runs. If this was not enough, the batter then helped England take the lead as well and made sure that India bats again that too in the fourth innings.
Ollie Pope is batting at 148 runs and has extended England’s lead to 126 runs. This well might have rung the alarm bells in the Indian contingent. Because chasing a big target in the fourth innings on Indian pitches isn’t as easy as it looks. The Hyderabad surface isn’t a rank turner but there’s a fair amount of help for the spinners.
India need to pick early wickets on Day 4 otherwise the game will be gone from their hands. However, bowling coach Paras Mhambrey is optimistic about the team taking early wickets at the start of the penultimate day of the game.
Speaking to reporters, Paras Mhambrey said that they don’t have any target in mind as they don’t want to take pressure. He talked about the wicket, saying that it has help for spinners and they need to be patient. He elaborated:
“We are not looking at any particular target. The objective is to to limit the total by taking early wickets, We do not want to take any pressure off target.
“It still has something for bowlers, it is still turning from the stump line, so dont think it will change. The pace of wicket got slower, so easier to negtiate turn but also has something to keep bowlers in game. We have to be patient with lines and hope for a wicket.”

Paras Mhambrey believes that batting will get easier in the fourth innings because the wicket doesn’t have as much turn as there is in sub-continental wickets. He also praised England for their brave effort and admitted that they put them under pressure. He added:
“If you look at how the game has progressed over the last three days, batting got better in the second innings, there is still turn but not the usual turn that you see on sub-continental wickets.
“We were expecting their aggression, credit to them for being brave enough. Pope played brave shots and put us under pressure.”
It remains to be seen how things will unfold on Day 4. With the way both the teams have played, it promises to be an exciting finish in the Test match.
