Coach Rathour Supports Rohit Sharma Amidst Pull Shot Criticism

After a long time, India is back to playing Test cricket. On December 26, India and South Africa started locking horns in the first Test match of the series. Both teams already locked horns in an ODI and T20 series. After playing those, they appeared in the longest format of the game. While batting first, Team India didn’t have a desired start. But Rohit Sharma got out quickly. After his dismissal, Team India’s batting coach Vikranm Rathour defends the Indian skipper.

Rohit Sharma’s Dismissal:

After winning the toss, South Africa decided to bowl first. Skipper Rohit Sharma came along with the young batter Yashasvi Jaiswal. But after scoring only five runs, skipper Rohit Sharma got out on a delivery from Kagiso Rabada. Rohit hit a pull shot quite impressively. But in this match, he got dismissed while playing it. After that, he faced a lot of criticism.

South Africa’s bowling sensation, Kagiso Rabadawas bowling the fifth over. On the last delivery of the over, Rabada bowled a short-of-length delivery which was targeting his body. He went through with the put ball but the ball ended up going to fie leg fielder’s hand. On an excellent delivery of Kagiso Rabada, Nandre Burger took Rohit Sharma’s catch.

Vikram Rathour’s Words:

After ending the World Cup on a disappointing note, Rohit Sharma took a break from the white ball format. He didn’t play the ODI and T20 series against South Africa. He came back in the Test series. He is one of the finest pull-shot hitters in the cricket world. But disappointingly, he was dismissed while hitting a pull shot in the first innings. After that, he faced a lot of criticism over that dismissal.

Team India’s Batting coach Vikram Rathour defends Rohit Sharma on that dismissal. He said, “ Rohit, I mean, I have spoken about it earlier as well. This is the shot he believes in, this is the shot he scores a lot of runs with. This is his shot. So, he is going to play this shot. Some days, it will come off. Some days, it won’t. So today, it didn’t. We can talk about it. On another day, he will hit for a six and everybody will say this is the shot he plays really well. We have heard people say he is the best puller in the world. He believes in it. We are okay, as a team management we are backing it.”
