Former England cricketer Michael Vaughan wants Ben Stokes-led side to adopt the approach of great Pep Guardiola in Test cricket. He said that the football great doesn’t allow players to get comfortable and keep everyone on their toes.
Michael Vaughan’s comment came after England suffered a disappointing series loss against India in the ongoing five-match series. Even though one game is still left in the series, the visitors have no chance to win and are down in the series by the margin of 3-1.
England raised the hopes of their fans when they won the first match of the series. But after that, India were back at their best as they outclassed the opposition in the remaining three games of the series to clinch the highly anticipated series.
It’s not that England was outplayed but they challenged India a lot however, failed to clinch the crucial junctures, which saw them lose the series. The series still has one game left and the Ben Stokes-led side would want to win the game and end the series on high.
England, who of late haven’t won anything big, has raised quite a few eyebrows. They drew the series against Australia and also had the same result against New Zealand. Michael Vaughan is among those people and he wants the team to change their approach. He believes that they should adopt the method of the best sporting leader of this generation in Pep Guardiola.
Michael Vaughan believes that England are struggling to crack big things but adopting Pep Guardiola’s approach might bring different results. Writing in his column for the Telegraph, he explained:
“I often mention Pep Guardiola’s approach. In my eyes, he’s the best sporting leader of this generation, say the last 15 years. He never allows his players to get comfortable. He always keeps them guessing, and they all know they are guaranteed nothing.
“If a great sporting leader like Pep has everyone on their toes like that, is it right that an England cricket team that is decent but struggling to crack the next level should be as comfortable as it seems?”
There is a massive difference between losing the series 3-2 and 4-1 – Michael Vaughan on England
Michael Vaughan believes that although England have lost the series but the upcoming game will be extremely crucial for the Ben Stokes-led side. He pointed out the difference between losing the series 3-2 and 4-1. He explained:
“The series may have been lost already with a game to spare but a big week looms for England in Dharamsala. There is a massive difference between losing the series 3-2 and 4-1.”
The last match of the Test series between India and England will be played from 7th March in Dharamsala. It remains to be seen if visitors will be able to make a comeback or not. With crucial World Test Championship points on the line, Ben Stokes as a skipper would be desperate to win the last match of the series and win at least two games in the series.
