Ex-India cricketer Prashant Vaidya arrested in this case

The Nagpur city police on Wednesday executed a non-bailable warrant against former Indian cricketer Prashant Vaidya, as per PTI. The warrant has been executed in a case of a cheque bouncing. Vaidya has played a total of four ODI matches for Indian cricket in the mid-1990s. As per a police officer, Vaidya was produced before the court and was later released on a surety bond.

As per inspector Vitthalsingh Rajput of the Bajajnagar Police Station, Prashant Vaidya had purchased Steel from a local trader and given a cheque to him which bounced later. The cricketer refused to pay the amount to the trader in return moved to the court. In return, the court issued a non-bailable warrant against Vaidya for skipping the hearings of the case. Vaidya is currently the head of the cricket development committee of the Vidarbha Cricket Association.

Vitthalsingh Rajput said in a statement, “Vaidya had allegedly purchased steel from a local trader and issued a check which bounced, following which the trader demanded fresh payment. The cricketer reportedly refused to pay. Therefore the businessman approached the court. A non-bailable warrant was issued against him for not attending the court hearing.”

Prashant Vaidya was also part of the Indian cricket team which won the Asia Cup in 1995. Vaidya made his international debut against Australia in February 1995. He picked up a wicket in that match and removed Australian batsman David Boon. He also played international matches against Bangladesh, Pakistan, and South Africa.

In a total of four ODI matches of his ODI career, Prashant Vaidya picked up four wickets and scored 15 runs. Prashant Vaidya has also played 56 first-class and 41 List-A matches during which he has scored 1038 and 116 runs respectively, followed by 171 and 46 wickets.

Prashant Vaidya is also alleged to be part of various frauds with banks. As per an Indian news outlet, in February 2019,  a fraud case against Prashant Vaidya, his brother Prafull, and his sister-in-law Varsha was filed in the Panchpavli police station. The trio was alleged to do a fraud of INR 2.90 crore with Bank of Baroda. Then Vaidya was the vice president of the Vidarbha Cricket Association.

Vidarbha are currently ranked in the top spot of the Elite Group A of the Ranji Trophy 2023-24. Vidarbha have won 3 out of four games and is in top form in the ongoing edition of the Ranji Trophy.

In the current Indian setup Jitesh Sharma is a very prominent name who plays for the Indian cricket team from Vidarbha. Sharma has produced some brilliant performances in domestic cricket and the Indian Premier League, due to which he found a place in Team India.

Jitesh Sharma is also among the probable players to play in the T20 World Cup 2024, due to the batting that he can do down the order.

Apart from Jitesh Sharma, Umesh Yadav is another prominent name to play for India from Vidarbha. CK Nayudu, Hemang Badani, Akshay Wadkar, and the team have given many brilliant cricketers to the Indian cricket team.
