Former India cricketer Robin Uthappa reacted to Virat Kohli’s ‘still got it comment’, which he made after the game against Punjab Kings in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. He said that it was an unnecessary comment from the batter because there’s no question about his ability.
Virat Kohli’s selection for the T20 World Cup 2024 of late has been one of the prime topics in the Indian Cricket Team. There have been reports that claimed that the selectors aren’t keen to include him in the team because slow tracks in the Carribean might not suit his game.
Virat Kohli made a comeback into the T20I setup against Afghanistan. He didn’t feature in any game after the T20 World Cup 2022. With a lot of youngsters in the mix, playing aggressive cricket, there have been a lot of doubts about his place in the team for the mega event.
However, Virat Kohli made sure that he silenced all the noise and proved to the World what he was capable of. The batter has been in tremendous touch in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 and is the orange cap holder, which in itself speaks volumes about his form.
After bagging a low score in the game against Chennai Super Kings, Virat Kohli made sure he set the stage on fire. In the second match against Punjab Kings, he scored 77 runs and followed it up with an unbeaten 83-run knock against Kolkata Knight Riders.
After his knock against Punjab Kings, Virat Kohli was on fire in the post-match presentation and he knows his name is being used to promote the game but he has still got it. He stated: “I know my name is quite attached to just promoting the game in many parts of the world when it comes to T20 cricket, but I have still got it I guess.”
Robin Uthappa reacted to Virat Kohli’s comments by stating that there was no need for the batter to make those comments because Kohli is class apart with the bat. The cricketer-turned-commentator also stressed that RCB batter wants to be part of the T20 World Cup but it will depend on the selectors. Speaking on Jio Cinema, he stated:
“I think what he even said at the last game felt so unnecessary. He didn’t have to say that because I think there was never a question in anyone’s mind about his ability or what he can bring to the table. As far as batting is concerned, he is a class act, but India hasn’t.
“And he’s his intentions, alright, that he wants to be a part of that T20 World Cup. Well, it’s up to the selectors if they’re going to look at a young squad or if they’re going to go with the tried and tested veterans who’ve done really well for the country and for themselves and in the IPL in the past.”
He’s kind of stated, okay, I want to go now – Robin Uthappa on Virat Kohli selection for T20 World Cup 2024
Robin Uthappa further stated that Virat Kohli has made his intentions clear that he wants to play for the T20 World Cup 2024 and win it for the Indian team. He added:
“So that’s up to the selectors. But he’s kind of stated, okay, I want to go now. I really want to go and give this one last score to get a T20 World Cup as well.”
Virat Kohli will be next seen in action when Royal Challengers Bengaluru take on Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on 2nd April at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
