Legendary batter Dilip Vengsarkar praised opener Yashasvi Jaiswal following his double century in the second Test against England. Dilip Vengsarkar recalled taking Yashasvi Jaiswal to England at a young age and witnessing his exceptional talent and determination.
In the first innings, Yashasvi Jaiswal showcased his prowess with an exceptional knock of 209 runs from 290 balls, embellished with seven sixes and 19 boundaries. The left-handed opening batter guided the home team to a total of 396 runs and a significant 143-run lead.
The southpaw stood out amidst a batting lineup that struggled, with Shubman Gill being the only other significant contributor, scoring 34 runs. Despite the pressure of wickets falling around him, he anchored the innings before eventually being dismissed as the eighth batter.
Yashasvi Jaiswal Comes From A Very Humble Background – Dilip Vengsarkar
In a recent conversation with RevSportz, Dilip Vengsarkar expressed delight at Jaiswal’s progress, highlighting his transition from a young boy to representing the national team. Vengsarkar also expressed pride in Jaiswal being appointed as the captain of Dadar Union.
“I had taken him to England when he was 14 or 15 years of age, and as we all know, he comes from a very humble background. In England, he scored in every match and we could see the hunger in him. I knew this kid would go places with the talent he possessed.”
“He then went on to play for India U-19 and scored plenty of runs in the World Cup, which supported his cause by getting picked by the IPL franchise, Rajasthan Royals. I am extremely happy about him and now he is the captain of Dadar Union as well, where I played for 25 years,” Vengsarkar told RevSportz.
India leveled the series with a 106-run victory in the second Test. Jasprit Bumrah’s exceptional performance earned him the Player of the Match award. Bumrah recorded his second-best match figures of his Test career (9/91), including a six-wicket haul in the first innings.
The third Test between India and England is set to commence at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot on February 15. The Indian team, led by Rohit Sharma, seeks to extend their advantage in the red-ball series against the Ben Stokes-led English side.
The selection committee has not yet announced India’s squad for the remaining three matches in the series. There is no official confirmation regarding the inclusion of Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Ravindra Jadeja, who were absent from the playing XI in the recent match.
