IPL 2024: SRH blow away MI to set the record for highest team total in IPL history

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) batters went on a rampage against Mumbai Indians (MI) in Match 8 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, posting a mammoth 277/3 in their stipulated 20 overs. This score rewrote the record books, as it became the highest team total in IPL history. The previous record of 263/5 belonged to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) against Pune Warriors India (PWI) in 2013.

SRH batters punish MI bowlers

The dominance of SRH batters was on full display. Travis Head blazed to a quickfire 18-ball fifty, including nine fours and three sixes, before departing for a well-made 62. Abhishek Sharma stole the show with a record-breaking knock. His 16-ball fifty, laced with three fours and seven towering sixes, makes him the fastest SRH batter to reach a half-century in the IPL.

Aiden Markram provided valuable support with an unbeaten 42 off 28 deliveries. Heinrich Klaasen, fresh off a whirlwind fifty against KKR, continued his good form with an unbeaten 80 off 34 balls, including 4 fours and seven maximums.

Highest powerplay score for the Sunrisers

Earlier in the ininngs, SRH set a new record for powerplay record for themselves by scoring 81/1 in the first six overs. Head was at the forefront, scoring 62 off just 24 balls in this phase. His unbeaten 59 in the powerplay becomes the second-highest score by an SRH batter in this period.

SRH continued to pile on the runs, reaching a massive 148/2 at the halfway mark โ€“ the highest team total after 10 overs in IPL history. They didnโ€™t relent in the death overs either, adding a further 75 runs in the final five overs to put Hardik Pandyaโ€˜s MI under immense pressure.
