Mitchell Starc fractured Shamar Joseph’s toe with deadly yorker? CWI provides injury update

West Indies pacer Shamar Joseph faced a toe-crushing yorker against Mitchell Starc during Day 3 of the West Indies second innings. Joseph, who was adjudged lbw by the umpire, survived as the delivery was a no-ball. However, Joseph was not able to bat and had to walk back to the dressing room with the help of the physio for 3 runs from 14 balls.

As per the scans, Shamar Joseph doesn’t have any fracture in his toe and is being currently monitored by the medical team of the West Indies cricket team. West Indies Cricket Board informed about the medical update of Shamar Joseph and posted for the same on ‘X’.

The tweet read, “Good news, as scans show no fracture in Shamar Joseph’s toe. He will continue to be monitored by the medical team and assessed tomorrow. WI wish him a speedy recovery!”

West Indies were wrapped up quickly by Australia on Day 3 for 193 runs in their second innings and were set up a total of 216 runs to win the match. The Aussies finished the day at 60/2 with Steve Smith and Cameron Green at the crease.

While continuing from their overnight score of 13/1, West Indies captain Kraigg Braithwaite and Kirk McKenzie added up 50 runs for the second wicket. Braithwaite was dismissed by Josh Hazlewood, but McKenzie continued to attack from the other end, but soon he as well had to walk back to the pavilion and fell to Nathan Lyon for 41 runs.

Alick Athanaze and Kavem Hodge took charge after Kirk McKenzie’s dismissal and added 37 runs off 96 balls, during which, Athanaze played some good shots. Joshua Da Silva, who was the highest run scorer for the visitors in the first innings, was dismissed by Mitchell Starc for 7 runs before Tea. The visitors faced a terrible batting collapse after the Tea break and lost their last 4 four wickets in the space of 10 runs.

Justin Greaves was removed by Australia after he was dismissed for 33 runs off 60 balls. Josh Hazlewood reached base for the second time in the inning after Alex Carey made the catch. As soon as Greaves left, Alzarri Joseph was likewise taken out for a duck. Nathan Lyon caught Kemar Roach in front for one run, while Shamar Joseph was retired hurt for three runs.
