Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is expected to get ruled out from the whole five-match Test series against England, as per reports in TOI with PTI inputs. Earlier, it was reported that Jadeja would miss the second and the third Test and will be back by the fourth game in Ranchi.
Jadeja faced a hamstring injury during the run-out in the second innings of the first Test match after he was run out while trying to take a quick run. Jadeja was amongst the top performers of the Indian team in the first Test match.
As per a report by Cricbuzz, a hamstring injury takes a period of four to five weeks to heal. However, Ravindra Jadeja was expected to return to the field after the third Test as he was given extra time by the Indian management to get his injury healed. However, it looks like Jadeja will take more time than expected and shall miss the whole Test series against England.
Ravindra Jadeja likely to miss remainder of IND vs ENG Test series
Ravindra Jadeja played an important role in wrapping up England’s batting lineup and picked up a three-wicket haul in the first innings whereas also played an innings of 87 runs with the bat. Jadeja has been Team India’s top performer in all three formats and also a lethal weapon with the ball in India. If he manages to miss the series, it will be huge for India.
England’s left-arm spinner Tom Hartley ripped through the Indian batting lineup in the first Test match and managed to pick up nine wickets in the whole match. Hartley picked up seven of the ten Indian wickets in the second innings. However, there was not as much turn-on offer for the spinners as they would have expected.
The Visakhapatnam pitch is expected to have more turns than it was in Hyderabad. If such happens, both teams are expected to go with four spinners. India may bring in Washington Sundar and Kuldeep Yadav in their lineup in place of Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj, whereas, England left-arm spinner Jack Leach is also unlikely to play the second Test match. England may go with Shoaib Bashir if Leach misses out on the Vizag Test.
The Indian team slumped to the fifth position in the World Test Championship 2023-25 standings. The Indian team will want to recover the loss they faced in the WTC standings by winning the second Test match in Vizag. The Indian team has played the final of the World Test Championship twice and will aim to do the same in the next edition.
The Indian team may also bring in Rajat Patidar and Sarfaraz Khan in place of out-of-form Shubman Gill or Shreyas Iyer. Both the batsmen have scored a lot of runs back in domestic cricket and performed well during the India A vs England Lions unofficial Tests.
Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer have not been able to score runs in the red ball format for a long time and also they have not been able to repeat their white ball exploits. Both batsmen may also miss their place in the Test side if they continue the same performance.
