RR vs DC Match Preview- IPL 2024, Match 9

Rajasthan Royals

Rajasthan Royals led by Sanju Samson started their campaign with a thumping win against Lucknow Super Giants at home. Everything fell into place for the team with the batters getting runs and the bowlers taking wickets. Samson started his campaign with an unbeaten 82 and stamped his class in the season.

The bowlers led by Trent Boult, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Yuzvendra Chahal all played a part in defending the total. They are a team that likes to bat first post a big total and back their bowlers to defend. They would like to back the same template as they look to topple Delhi Capitals.

RR Squad

Sanju Samson (c), Jos Buttler, Shimron Hetmyer, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel, Riyan Parag, Donovan Ferreira, Kunal Rathore, Ravichandran Ashwin, Kuldeep Sen, Navdeep Saini, Prasidh Krishna, Sandeep Sharma, Trent Boult, Yuzvendra Chahal, Adam Zampa, Avesh Khan, Rovman Powell, Shubham Dubey, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Abid Mushtaq, Nandre Burger.

Delhi Capitals

The Capitals started with a loss against the Punjab Kings. They lost wickets at regular intervals while posting the total and fell at least 20-30 short on a good batting track. Rishabh Pant on his return game scored 18 off 13 balls. Overall, their batting effort fell way short and they ended up losing the game.

Their bowling attack lacked the teeth in the absence of Anrich Nortje in the pace attack. He has joined the team after regaining fitness and will be available for selection in the match against Rajasthan Royals. They will look to bounce back to winning ways. Delhi is among the three original teams apart from RCB and PBKS to not win an IPL title yet.

DC Squad

Rishabh Pant (c), Pravin Dubey, David Warner, Vicky Ostwal, Prithvi Shaw, Anrich Nortje, Abishek Porel, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Lungi Ngidi, Lalit Yadav, Khaleel Ahmed, Mitchell Marsh, Ishant Sharma, Yash Dhull, Mukesh Kumar, Harry Brook, Tristan Stubbs, Ricky Bhui, Kumar Kushagra, Rasikh Dar, Jhye Richardson, Sumit Kumar, Shai Hope, Swastik Chhikara.

Key Battles

Yashasvi Jaiswal vs Anrich Nortje

Jaiswal has been in the red-hot form of late. He recently scored over 700 runs in the Test series against England heading into the IPL. Opening the batting, he will face up against Anrich Nortje who will look to dismiss him early.

David Warner vs Ravichandran Ashwin

Warner has been Ashwin’s “bunny” in Test cricket as he has dismissed the southpaw 11 times in the format. Ashwin has also dismissed David Warner once in ODIs and twice in T20I cricket. In the IPL, Ravichandran Ashwin has dismissed David Warner thrice.

Sanju Samson vs Kuldeep Yadav

Samson likes to take on the spinners early on in his innings. That is where the Capitals can introduce Kuldeep Yadav against him and limit his run-scoring. He has dismissed him once but has not conceded too many runs either.

For DC, Rishabh Pant, David Warner, and Mitchell Marsh after Abishek Porel especially after the last game will be the key batters. With the ball, the return of Nortje will bolster the pace attack along with Kuldeep and Axar.

Weather and Pitch

The weather for the RR vs DC game is expected to be hot and humid. The temperature will be around 40 degrees during the day time and it will drop down to around 20 degrees in the evening. There is no threat of rain.

Speaking about the pitch 34 out of the 53 games have been won by the team chasing. However, the Royals won the first game at this ground in IPL 2024 batting first. This is generally considered to be a high-scoring venue.

Conclusion

The two teams have played 27 matches with Rajasthan Royals winning 14 games and Delhi Capitals 13. The Royals have won four out of their six games at home against the Capitals. This a crucial game for the Capitals to come back to winning ways after the initial defeat.
