The schedule for the fourth edition of The Hundred has been announced. The tournament is scheduled to be played from July 23 to August 18. A total of eight teams will participate in the men’s and women’s competitions,
The Birmingham Phoenix will be up against Oval Invincibles in the first game of the tournament. The final is scheduled to take place at the Lord’s. The league stage will be played from July 23 to August 15. As in previous years, all of the matches are doubleheaders, with the women’s fixture occupying the first slot.
After the league stage, the top three teams will qualify for the next stage. While the team finishing at the top of the points table will qualify directly for the final, the second and third-placed teams will play in the Eliminator for a place in the title decider. The Eliminator is scheduled to take place at the Kia Oval on August 17.
The Oval Invincibles are the defending champions in the men’s competition and will be in action on the very first day of the tournament. On the other hand, women’s reigning champions Southern Brave will start their title defence against London Spirit on July 24.
“I can’t wait for The Hundred. It’s such a fun competition to play in, and the crowds are getting better and better. You can really feel the difference at The Hundred in terms of the number of young people and families in the crowd.
“It’s done so much for the women’s game and the lift in both the profile and the standard of women’s cricket has been amazing,” said England women’s team and Southern Brave batter Danni Wyatt.
England allrounder Sam Curran, who plies his trade for Oval Invincibles, also expressed his excitement for the fourth season of The Hundred, saying: “I think the third year of The Hundred was a huge step forward for the competition.
“We know the standard is top quality but with every year we play it the format itself becomes part of the event. We saw so many close finishes last year in the men’s competition and close contests are so good for bringing fans in.
“We’d love to be back at Lord’s in August to try and defend our trophy but we’re also looking forward to getting back out in front of our fans at the Kia Oval,” he added.
