The Pakistan Cricket Board elected Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi as the new chairman

Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, the interim Chief Minister of Punjab state, was elected chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Tuesday. He was elected unopposed by the Board of Governors of the PCB. He will be serving a term of three years starting Tuesday.

Naqvi’s background :

Naqvi becomes the 37th chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board. This unanimous election was completed at a meeting of the BoG held by interim chairman Shah Khawar at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore.

Naqvi is a Pakistani media mogul who is the owner of City Media Group. He has been serving as the incumbent caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab since 22 January 2023. Caretaker Prime Minister and PCB Patron-in-Chief Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar designated Naqvi as a member of the governing board on 22 January 2024. 

Naqvi’s message :

“I am deeply honored and humbled to have been unanimously elected as the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board. I am thankful for the trust and confidence reposed in me. I am fully committed to upgrading the standard of the game in the country and bringing professionalism to the administration of cricket in Pakistan,” said Naqvi. 

The PCB has been without a full-time chairman since December 2022, when Ramiz Raja, a former national captain was removed by a midnight government notification. Since then, Najam Sethi and Zaka Ashraf have filled in for different periods in interim capacities. Ashraf stepped down from the position on January 19.
