Australian opener David Warner scored 91 runs in his final Test innings and played a major role in Australia’s 3-0 sweep against Pakistan. Warner scored 164 runs in the first match of the series and helped Australia win the match by 360 runs. David Warner was known for his aggressive nature at the start of his international career but there has been a subtle change in the attitude of the left-handed batsman in the last few years.

Speaking to the reporters after the Test series against Pakistan, David Warner said that he has not been everyone’s ‘cup of tea’ in the team. Warner further added that he has tried his best to play the game as best as he can and also has tried to do his best for the team.

David Warner further stated that in the early days of his career, he was given the duty to sledge the opposition batsmen. Warner added that he was that one ‘chirpy fella’ in the team, however, it did boost his confidence whenever he came out to bat.

David Warner opens up on his international career

David Warner said to Fox Cricket, “Over the years, I haven’t been everyone’s cup of tea but for me, I’ve played the game as hard as I can and trying to do my best for the team. If I had my time again and I knew that, I probably would show a little bit more patience with myself and I’d bite my tongue a little bit more.”

“I think a lot of people don’t get to see or meet or know the person. From when I first started, I was that chirpy little fella that was out there. That was my role in the team…to go out there and get under the batter’s skin and the opposition’s skin and yeah, it did boost me a little bit because they came at me when I batted.”

“But they saw it early days, and I think your first impression, you don’t get a second chance at that and you know, I’ve tried to rebuild that trust and faith.”

The international career of David Warner has been a rollercoaster for him as he has scored a lot of runs throughout his career and also has faced a lot of challenges. Warner was not in good touch in the initial few days of 2023 but he regained his lost form back and performed brilliantly in the 2023 ODI World Cup.

However, the major change in David Warner’s career came after he was banned for one year after getting involved in the 2018 Sandpapergate scandal. Warner knew about the ball-tampering that Cameron Bancroft did with the sandpaper during the Port Elizabeth Test match against South Africa.

David Warner scored a total of 18612 runs from 372 matches in his international career at an average of 42.49. Warner also slammed 49 centuries in his international career followed by 94 half centuries. His highest score has been 335*.

David Warner has also retired from the ODI format after the Test series against Pakistan and is expected to play T20 leagues all over the world.
