India and England are clashing at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad for the first Test of the five-match series. The Indian spinners have wreaked havoc in the first innings after England decided to bat first after winning the toss. However, Avesh Khan who was included in the Indian squad for the first two Tests against England has been released so that he could feature in the Ranji Trophy representing Madhya Pradesh.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma went with three finger-spinners and two pacers in the XI for the first Test. Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel are the three spinners in the squad whereas Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj are the two pace bowlers playing the game. It was pre-determined that Avesh Khan wouldn’t be getting any game time in the first two Tests and as a result, the Indian team made a good decision to release him for playing domestic cricket and proving his worth.

Avesh Khan has made his Team India debut in both the white-ball formats playing eight ODIs and 19 T20Is for India. He received his maiden Test call-up in this series as a replacement for Mohammed Shami who has still not fully recovered from his injury. Avesh Khan has a great record in First-Class cricket and has always been an important member of the Madhya Pradesh domestic team.

Avesh Khan has played 39 First-Class matches and in 68 innings he has taken 154 wickets at an average of 22.27 which includes eight five-wicket hauls. He has also taken more than 10 wickets in a First-Class match twice which shows his prowess with the red ball. The right-arm pacer is yet to make his Test debut for India and is likely to be a prospect for the Indian Team in all formats.

Avesh Khan Will Play In The Next Match Of Madhya Pradesh Against Puducherry

Indian spinners have done their job in the first innings as England is bowled out for 246 with the spinners taking eight out of the 10 wickets. Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja became the most successful Indian bowling pair in Test cricket. They have taken 505 wickets together in Test cricket surpassing the pair of Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh who have taken 501 wickets in 54 Test matches. Ashwin and Jadeja both shared three wickets each in the first innings.

Avesh Khan may not have had the opportunity to make his Test debut but he has the opportunity to showcase his prowess in the domestic circuit and if he performs there then he might be the next in contention for a Test cap. Meanwhile, India has started their innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal giving a flying start to the Indian innings. At the time of writing this article, India is 22/0 trailing by 224 runs.
