After completing the T20 series against Afghanistan, Team India is scheduled to play a five-match Test series against England. After a long, India is going to play a Test series at home. Dhruv Jurel, at the age of 22, has emerged as an unexpected addition among the three designated wicketkeepers named in the squad. This surprising move came after Ishan Kishan opted out of the Indian team due to mental fatigue. Jurel earned his maiden call-up to the Indian squad based on his impressive performances during his debut IPL season, where he showcased his skills as a wicketkeeper-batsman while playing a crucial finisher role for the Rajasthan Royals.

Dhruv participated in 13 games during the IPL 2023, showcasing an impressive performance by scoring 153 runs at an average of 21.71 and an outstanding strike rate of 172.73. Notably, he earned the franchise’s confidence and was retained in preparation for the IPL 2024 auction.

Turning to first-class cricket, Jurel represents Uttar Pradesh and marked his debut in the Ranji Trophy during the 2022 season against Vidarbha. Over 15 matches, he has accumulated a total of 790 runs at an average of 46.67, featuring a notable double-century and five half-centuries. This consistent and noteworthy performance has established Jurel as a valuable asset in the first-class cricket arena.

Jurel’s unexpected call-up to the Indian squad was prompted by Ishan Kishan’s absence, and his impressive showing in the IPL earned him recognition. Sangakkara’s positive assessment of Jurel’s capabilities underscores the young player’s hard work and composure in high-pressure scenarios.
