His stellar year showcased consistency across all formats—two wickets per Test innings, a superior rate in ODIs, and a wicket every 13 balls in T20s, clocking speeds beyond 145kph. In India, Gerald Coetzee showcased his bowling brilliance, consistently delivering multiple-wicket performances except for a 1/57 against the Netherlands. Transitioning to T20Is, he claimed six wickets in four matches, with a standout 3/32 against India in Gqeberha. Coetzee’s bowling prowess added flair to the Proteas’ campaigns.
- Yashasvi Jaiswal:
In 2023, Yashasvi Jaiswal, at the age of 22, seized every opportunity that came his way for India. His Test debut in the Caribbean saw him making a splendid century in Dominica, earning him the Player of the Match award. Adding 57 and 38 in the second Test, he showcased a noteworthy half-century partnership with Rohit Sharma. Jaiswal’s T20I debut on the same tour featured a remarkable 84* (51).
The left-hander didn’t just debut; he etched his name with a spectacular 171 at Windsor Park against the West Indies, lasting over eight hours. Jaiswal’s innings included 16 fours and a six, making him the 17th Indian to score a Test century on debut and the seventh to do so away from home.
