IND Vs SA: Aakash Chopra Reveals One Milestone That Only Virat Kohli Has Only Been Able To Achieve vs South Africa In Tests

Virat Kohli

While talking about the 1st test between India and South Africa in a new video uploaded on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra has claimed that India’s over-dependency on Virat Kohli could turn out to be the biggest issue for them during the 2-match Test series starting from today at Centurion.

Chopra noted the fact that Kohli has put up consistent performances in foreign conditions and has done well in challenging wickets in South Africa. But at the same time, it is also a major problem that Virat Kohli is the only one to have a good record over there with the Indian team heavily relying on his performance.

“You might have a question in your mind as to why we are unable to win here. According to me, the main reason is that these are the most difficult conditions for batting across the globe, where the ball seams, swings, and bounces.” – Aakash Chopra said.

This scenario has to change if India are even thinking of winning their first-ever Test series on South African soil. All of the Indian batters will have to perform well and it should be a collective contribution rather than an individual show.

With some new faces in the batting line-up like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Shreyas Iyer, all of whom are expected to start will be playing their first-ever Test series in South Africa. They will no doubt bring freshness and variety in India’s batting but at the same time, they have no experience of playing in these conditions whatsoever.

And that is exactly what Aakash Chopra tried to point out. He claimed that South Africa has the toughest conditions to bat as the Ball swings, seams, and bounces well. When the former Proteas Captain Faf Du Plessis was asked about the one area that Indian batters struggle to tackle, he replied it is the unexpected bounce that Indian batters fail to pick up in South Africa.

With similar conditions this time around as well, it will be interesting to see the game plan of Indian batters other than the proven Virat Kohli.

“Average Of Virat Kohli At South Africa Is Close To His Career”, Aakash Chopra Warns Other Indian Batters

Aakash Chopra took account of Virat Kohli’s excellent Test average at South Africa of 50.17 which is very close to his overall average in Test cricket, which is 49.29. He has scored 719 runs which includes 2 Centuries and 3 half-centuries in his last 4 tours to the Rainbow Nation.

While highlighting Kohli’s outstanding average, Chopra reminded that the averages of all the other batters are very poor and that needs to change this time around. “When you see this team, Virat Kohli is the only player whose average in South Africa is close to his career average. Everyone else’s averages plummet when they go to South Africa.” – Chopra added.

Other than the over-dependency on Virat Kohli, Aakash Chopra believes that the Indian batting lineup has an imperative task in hand of handling a fiery bowling attack of South Africa. He also thinks that their Batters will not cause much problems as they are quite inexperienced but having the likes of Kagiso Rabada, Gerald Coetzee, Lungi Ngidi and Marco Jansen, India will not find it easy to score runs.

“They are going to challenge you (team India). If India can score 350-400 runs, they can get close to creating history. If we look at South Africa, the batting is extremely inexperienced. They are not a team that will score 500 against your bowling attack.” – Aakash Chopra concluded.
