It was a special day in the life of Indian pacer Prasidh Krishna as he made his Test debut during the Boxing Day Test between India and South Africa. Krishna, who has already made an appearance in the white-ball format, will be aiming to deliver his best in his first Test match for the Indian cricket team.
The Day 1 of the first Test match between India and South Africa witnessed early stumps as rain halted the play. It was not a pleasing day for the Indian batters as they ended it at 208/8 with KL Rahul and Mohammed Siraj at the crease.
Rahul Dravid hails Prasidh Krishna
Hailing the debutant, Indian head coach Rahul Dravid revealed that Prasidh Krishna has been the most promising prospect of the Indian cricket team. Dravid highlighted that due to several reasons, Krishna has not been able to play much first-class cricket but he wants him to enjoy his first Test match.
While speaking ahead of the Day 1 of the first IND vs SA Test match, Rahul Dravid said, “Prasidh is a promising prospect, but we have to be realistic that this is his first Test match. He has not had a lot of first-class cricket to fall back on because of several reasons. But I am hoping he has a good game and enjoys himself.”
Rahul Dravid added that any team needs a lot of luck while playing in South Africa as there are plenty of plays and misses.
Rahul Dravid said, “You need a little bit of luck as well in these conditions, there are a lot of plays and misses, you want to be the one playing and missing, and hopefully, the opposition edging those same ones. I think there is a little bit of luck involved.”
Prasidh Krishna made his ODI debut back in the year 2021 and since then he has played 17 ODIs and five T20I games. Krishna has picked up 29 wickets in the 50-over format whereas he has picked eight wickets in the T20I format.
Prasidh Krishna has had an injury-prone career in which he has also played 12 first-class matches in which he has picked up 54 wickets. Krishna has picked up wickets at an average and economy of 17.29 and 2.78.
The presence of Prasidh Krishna is very important for the Indian team as ace pacer Mohammad Shami is ruled out of the series. Krishna will play under the guidance of pacers such as Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, in which he can have the best of his debut match.
The conditions at the SuperSport Park offer a lot of pace and bounce to the bowlers due to which Prasidh Krishna can cause problems for the South African batsmen. With the Indian team already 208/8 on Day 1 of the first Test, the Indian bowlers will want to restrict the Proteas batsmen and help the team make a comeback in the match.
