Temba Bavuma gets injured

South Africa skipper Temba Bavuma didn’t have the kind of day he would’ve wanted in the first Test against India. The ongoing Day 1 of the Boxing Day Test between the Proteas and India are taking place at the Supersport Park in Centurion.

Temba Bavuma in the first session of the match in Centurion injured himself. The skipper chased the ball as he tried to stop it. As he ran behind the ball, he pulled up his hamstring and looked in immense pain.

Temba Bavuma in the middle of his run started limping and was taken off the field. It didn’t look great as physios too had a look at him and since then he hasn’t taken part in the game, which mostly has been dominated by South Africa till now.

Temba Bavuma after facing a blow went for scans. The reports have revealed that the skipper has strained his left hamstring. His participation in the game will depend on the medical evaluations, which he will be undergoing every day. If deemed fit then only he will take part in the game.

As of now, Temba Bavuma hasn’t taken part in the game after the injury. With Day 1 ending in just a few hours, his participation for today looks uncertain today. With 4 days still to go followed by the second Test, it is expected that team management wouldn’t risk playing him.

South Africa would be hoping that Temba Bavuma recovers as quickly as possible. If he misses the entire game, it will be a huge blow for the team as he holds the key for the team in the batting order. Apart from him, the Proteas also will miss him as captain. He has been leading the team well and his services would be needed for the team.

IND vs SA: In Temba Bavuma’s absence, Dean Elgar makes a huge impact

After Temba Bavuma walked off the field, the captaincy onus was taken by none other than former skipper Dean Elgar. The Southpaw has done an exceptional job that has put India under tremendous pressure. He has rotated the bowlers well, which hasn’t allowed the opposition team to settle.

Kagiso Rabada has been the chief architect behind the South African carnage on Day 1. The pacer has taken 5 wickets, which is his 14th fifer in Tests. He has removed big guns in Rohit Sharma (5), Virat Kohli (38), Shreyas Iyer (31) along with Ravichandran Ashwin (8) and Shardul Thakur (24).

Indian innings have been held by keeper-batter KL Rahul, who has slammed a magnificent half-century and is still going strong. He has played with full control and has played some breathtaking shots. He holds the key for the team in the game and is making sure that he scores runs quickly along with being cautious. With the way he is batting, he looks set for the ton. He would be hoping that tailenders support him and he takes the team to a big total and has something to play with.
