Irfan Pathan has revealed his choice for the better catch between MS Dhoni and Ajinkya Rahane’s catches during the recently concluded match between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

CSK, on Tuesday (March 26), thrashed GT by 63 runs to extend their winning start in the ongoing IPL 2024. With CSK and GT locking horns for the first time since last year’s final, many expected the game to be a thriller. However, CSK thoroughly outplayed the 2022 champions to register their second win in as many games this season.

Asked to bat first, the Chennai-based outfit piled up a big total of 206 for 6 in the allotted 20 overs with Shivam Dube scoring a fine half-century. Openers Rachin Ravindra (46) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (46) laid the platform for the big total before Dube’s 22-ball fifty helped CSK pile up the 200-plus total.

In reply, GT finished their innings on a modest total of 143 for 8. The Gujarat-based outfit never really looked in contention to chase down the total as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Apart from Sai Sudharsan (37), no other GT batter could touch the 30-run mark. For CSK, Deepak Chahar, Mustafizur Rahman, and Tushar Deshpande picked up two wickets apiece.

Irfan Pathan picks the better catch:

During the game, MS Dhoni and Ajinkya Rahane pulled off stunning catches. MS Dhoni was the first to do so. In the eighth over, he made a full-length dive to his right side to catch the ball while being airborne and sent back Vijay Shankar.

Later in the 12th over, Rahane came up with a brilliant effort to send back David Miller. After Miller hit a hard and flat shot towards deep mid-wicket, Rahane dived forward to complete a sensational catch. And soon after the game ended, Irfan Pathan took to X (formerly Twitter) to state that he would choose Rahane’s catch over Dhoni’s, writing: “Would you choose Dhoni’s catch or Rahane’s? My pick is Rahane, yours?”

Meanwhile, CSK will be in action next on Sunday (March 31) when they take on Delhi Capitals while Gujarat Titans’ next game is against Sunrisers Hyderabad on the same day.
