A case has been registered against former Indian cricketer and Haryana Deputy Superintendent of Police Joginder Sharma in connection with the alleged suicide of a Hisar resident. Joginder Sharma, along with five others, is implicated in the tragic suicide case of Pawan.

The incident on January 1 involved Pawan, who hanged himself from a ceiling fan amid an alleged property dispute. The victim’s family protested outside the Hisar Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Office, demanding legal action and the immediate arrest of the accused.

In reaction to the incident, Haryana Police lodged an FIR, identifying five individuals, including Ajayveer, Ishwar Prem, and Rajendra Sihag, for abetment of suicide. The FIR has been registered against all six accused under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

As stated in the FIR, Sunita asserted that her son’s suicide was prompted by the ongoing case and that they had endured years of harassment from the accused. The filed FIR highlights how Ajayveer and Arjun compelled Pawan to vacate his residence the previous week.

She filed a complaint against them, excluding Joginder, invoking IPC sections 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (common), along with the SC/ST Act, at Azad Nagar Police Station on October 6, 2020. Joginder, who conducted the investigation, was aware of her caste.

On November 6, 2020, the accused visited her residence, where they threatened her daughter, Kavita, leading to Kavita’s suicide attempt on November 9. Despite Joginder’s investigation, no one was held accountable for the threats against Kavita.

I Am Unaware Of This Case – Joginder Sharma

Joginder Sharma, who concluded his cricket career in February 2023, refuted the accusations, asserting that he is unfamiliar with Pawan and has never encountered him.

“I am unaware of this case. I don’t know Pawan and have never met him,” Sharma stated as quoted by India Today.

Joginder Sharma commenced his international cricket journey in 2004 and gained recognition as a crucial player in India’s T20 World Cup victory against Pakistan in 2007. Notably, he secured India’s win in the final match by dismissing Misbah-ul-Haq in the last over.

The 40-year-old retired from international cricket in 2023. The right-arm pacer represented India in 4 ODIs and 4 T20Is, securing 1 wicket and 4 wickets, respectively. He was part of the Chennai Super Kings in the inaugural edition of the IPL and played until 2011.
