Ravindra Credits Quick Outfields for CSK’s Strong Start in IPL 2024

Firing on All Cylinders: Ravindra Powers CSK to Imposing Total

New Zealand batsman Rachin Ravindra has credited the quick outfields in India for his explosive batting performances in the ongoing IPL 2024. The young southpaw has been a revelation at the top of the order for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), providing them with blazing starts in both their matches so far.

Speaking during the mid-innings break in CSK’s match against the Gujarat Titans, Ravindra spoke highly of the batting conditions in India. “It was a pretty good wicket to bat on,” he said. “The new ball was coming on nicely. It was about showing some intent, good to bat with Ruturaj [Gaikwad].”

He went on to highlight the role that the quick outfields play in his success. “The outfields in India are pretty quick, you get pretty good value for your shots,” Ravindra remarked. This has certainly been evident in his batting approach, with both his scores – 37(15) and 46(20) – coming at a blistering pace.

Explosive Start Sets the Tone

Ravindra, alongside CSK’s new captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, provided the side with a flying start against the Gujarat Titans. The duo put on a quickfire 62-run partnership within the powerplay, putting CSK firmly in control. Ravindra’s knock was laced with exquisite timing, peppered with six boundaries and three sixes.

However, his stay at the crease was cut short just before the powerplay ended. The dangerous left-hander was cleverly stumped by Wriddhiman Saha off the bowling of Afghan spinner Rashid Khan.

Adapting to Chepauk’s Challenges

Despite the dismissal, Ravindra’s knock set the platform for a strong total for CSK. The team eventually posted a competitive 206 for 6 wickets on a pitch known for being slightly sluggish. While acknowledging the advantage of the quick outfield, Ravindra also recognized the challenges posed by the Chepauk surface.

“It (total) is slightly over par, but still it’s a very good wicket,” he said. “There’s slight dew on the outfield. (Will bowl a few overs) hopefully,” he added, hinting at his potential contribution with the ball later in the match.

A Well-Rounded Performance Propels CSK

Ravindra’s impressive batting display was just one aspect of CSK’s strong showing against the Gujarat Titans. Shivam Dube provided a crucial middle-order impetus with his quickfire 23-ball 51, while Daryl Mitchell and Sameer Rizvi chipped in with valuable cameos to propel CSK past the 200-run mark.

With a strong total on the board and the dew expected to play a role later in the evening, CSK will be confident of defending their score against the Gujarat Titans. However, much will depend on how well they navigate the challenges of bowling on a pitch that might assist the spinners later on.
